USDA Investing In Nutritional Projects

Low-income, at-risk, and tribal communities are the focus of the investments.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) invested over $34 million in the Nutrition Incentive Projects and Produce Prescription Projects last month. These programs are designed to encourage healthy eating through purchases of fruits and vegetables and this year alone $122 million has been invested to promote nutrition security in low-income, at-risk and Tribal communities.

“We want to ensure all Americans have access to healthy, affordable, and fresh food,” stated National Institute of Food and Agriculture Director Carrie Castille. “As we approach the holiday season, we should be mindful that over 13 million American families are food insecure. USDA continues to use every resource at our disposal to bolster both food and nutrition security for these vulnerable Americans. Programs like GusNIP play a key role in helping families purchase and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables while giving them a chance for better health outcomes, not just during the holidays, but year-round.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Director Castille as she oversees the National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
  • For officials of the USDA as they as they develop and fund food programs.
  • For at-risk communities who need access to affordable food.
